Common codes
| Code | Used for | Base units |
|---|---|---|
| 00910 | Transurethral procedures, not otherwise specified (such as cystoscopy) | 3 |
| 00914 | Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) | 5 |
| 00918 | Ureteroscopy with stone fragmentation | 5 |
Base units shown are the standard values most payers use. Check your payer and the current year's CMS base unit file before relying on them.
Tips
- Upgrade when the case changes. A cystoscopy that becomes a ureteroscopy with stone treatment should be coded as the bigger procedure.
- Older patients. Many urology patients are older with other conditions. Capture physical status and, with payers that pay it, extreme age.
- Short cases. As with any quick case, record exact times.
