For billing owners

Why anesthesia is the hardest account in a general billing company

If your anesthesia clients take more time, cause more denials and make you more nervous than any other account, you're not alone.

It's a different system

Most of your book runs on CPT codes and fee schedules. Anesthesia runs on base units, time and conversion factors, with modifiers that change who gets paid and how much. A biller who's great at orthopedics or primary care can still make expensive anesthesia mistakes.

The usual pain points

  • One person knows it. When they're out, claims pile up.
  • Records arrive late or incomplete from facilities you don't control.
  • Denials are harder to work, because the fix often means going back to the anesthesia record.
  • Medical direction rules carry real compliance risk if they're applied wrong.
  • Payer policies change on things like MAC and time, and you have to track them for a handful of clients.

What it does to your margins

If your anesthesia accounts take twice the hours of your other accounts for the same percentage fee, they're quietly your least profitable work. Our anesthesia account profitability calculator shows you in two minutes.

Your options

Keep them and invest in training, subcontract the anesthesia work, or sell the accounts and focus on the rest of your book.

Our promise to sellers

How we'll treat you and your clients

  • We sign an NDA before you share client names or numbers.
  • Your clients hear about it from you and us together, after signing. Never before.
  • Every term, including how and when you're paid, is written out in plain English before you sign.
  • Your clients' fees don't go up for at least 12 months after the handover.
  • If you're selling only your anesthesia accounts, we won't approach your other clients. We'll put that in writing.
  • If we're not the right buyer, we'll tell you quickly and point you somewhere better if we can.
