Your numbers

Days in A/R: how fast is your money arriving?

Days in accounts receivable is your cash flow speedometer.

How it's calculated

Total accounts receivable ÷ Average daily charges

Average daily charges are usually your last three months of charges divided by the number of days.

What healthy looks like

Many billing advisers aim for under 40 to 50 days. If yours is creeping up, claims are going out late, denials are piling up, or follow-up isn't happening.

How to bring it down

  • Get anesthesia records to your biller within a few days of the case
  • Check claims before they go out so fewer bounce back
  • Set up electronic payments and remittance with every payer
  • Work anything over 30 days unpaid, every week
