Getting paid

Medicare Advantage and anesthesia claims

More of your Medicare patients are in Advantage plans. They don't always follow traditional Medicare rules.

What's different

Medicare Advantage plans are run by private insurers. They must cover what Medicare covers, but they set their own networks, authorization rules and processes.

Check these for every plan

  • Are you in network?
  • Does the plan require prior authorization for the procedure?
  • How does it treat anesthesia time and modifiers?
  • What are its appeal deadlines?

Watch the payments

Compare what each plan pays with your contract. Underpayments are easy to miss when you have many plans.

This article is general information, not billing, legal or tax advice. Payer rules change; always check current guidance.
