Setting up anesthesia for a new surgery center

If a center is opening and you're providing anesthesia, the months before opening decide how smooth the first year goes.

Before opening

  • Enroll your providers at the new location with every payer
  • Find out which payers the center has contracts with, and make sure you do too
  • Agree how anesthesia records will reach billing
  • Estimate the payer mix and whether you'll need a stipend

The first months

Volume is usually low at first. Plan staffing and cash for that. Check your first claims closely so problems are caught early.
