The usual model
Most anesthesia billing companies charge a percentage of what they collect for you. The percentage is usually in the single digits. It depends on your volume, payer mix, how much work your claims need and what's included.
What should be included
- Coding, claims, payment posting and follow-up
- Denials and appeals
- Monthly reporting
- Patient statements and a patient phone line
Watch for extras
- Separate fees for credentialing, statements or software
- Minimum monthly fees
- Higher rates on old claims
- Long contracts with steep exit fees
Compare on results, not just price
A biller that charges a point more but collects several points more of what you're owed is the cheaper option. Ask for their typical net collection rate and days in A/R. Our billing cost calculator can help you compare. See also our pricing.
