How to win an anesthesia contract with a surgery center

Surgery centers care about three things: rooms that start on time, happy surgeons and patients, and costs that make sense.

What centers care about

  • Reliability. Rooms start on time, every day, with backup when someone's sick.
  • Surgeon satisfaction. Surgeons bring the cases. If they're happy with you, the center is too.
  • Cost. A group that doesn't need a big stipend has an edge.
  • Fewer headaches. Credentialing, billing and scheduling handled without the center chasing you.

How to pitch

  1. Talk to the surgeons first. Ask what they'd change about anesthesia today.
  2. Meet the administrator with a short plan: staffing, start times, backup and billing.
  3. Bring numbers: how many cases you can cover and whether you'd need a stipend.
  4. Offer a trial period if the center is unsure.

Billing is part of the pitch

Centers like groups that bill cleanly and don't generate patient complaints about surprise bills. Show them how you handle it.
