Choosing a biller

Seven signs your anesthesia billing is costing you money

Most groups don't know what they're missing because nobody shows them. These are the warning signs we see most.

  1. You don't get a monthly report. If you can't see your collection rate, days to payment and denials, you can't tell whether billing is working.
  2. Payments feel slower than they used to. Rising days to payment often means claims are going out late or sitting unworked.
  3. The same denials keep coming back. A denial that repeats is a process problem nobody has fixed.
  4. Old claims are quietly written off. Ask what was written off last quarter and why.
  5. Time looks rounded. If anesthesia minutes always land on neat numbers, time may be under-recorded.
  6. Physical status and qualifying circumstances never appear. Many commercial payers pay extra units for these. If they're missing, so is the money.
  7. Your biller is hard to reach. If questions take a week to answer, problems take longer to fix.
