Choosing a biller

What your monthly anesthesia billing report should show

If your biller sends you nothing, or a wall of numbers nobody explains, this is what to ask for.

The numbers that matter

  • Net collection rate. Of what you could collect, how much you did.
  • Days in accounts receivable. How long, on average, money takes to arrive.
  • Denial rate. The share of claims denied the first time, and why.
  • Clean claim rate. The share of claims accepted without fixes.
  • Aging. How much is unpaid after 30, 60, 90 and 120 days.
  • Recoveries. Money won back from denials and underpayments.

Trends beat snapshots

One month tells you little. Ask for the last 12 months side by side so you can see whether things are getting better or worse.

Ask for plain English

Every number should come with a sentence explaining what changed and what's being done about it. See net collection rate and days in A/R for more.
